During the course of the university year, UMHRA holds monthly meetings focused on the different business functions encompassed by HR. Each meeting will feature an experienced speaker from the area, as well as other guests - and dinner will always be provided! 

The next UMHRA Monthly Meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 15th at 5:30pm in Room 117 Drake.

February's meeting is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) Designation Info Session. Deadlines to register for the CHRP exams are coming up in March so for those of you graduating this year, you will have all the information you need to decide whether writing the CHRP exam is right for you! This meeting will give you everything you need to know about registering for the exams and what it takes to successfully write them!
 
Yvonne Thompson will be our guest speaker - if you attended our Wine and Cheese, she was the guest speaker there as well. She has been leading the NKE and NPPA prep courses so she will be able to answer any questions you may have!

NKE Prep Course: March 10-11 (registration closes March 2) $355
NKE Exam: May 5 (registration closes March 5 - must be an HRMAM member) $250
Study groups are strongly encouraged for this exam. You should start considering whether you plan to write and consider forming a study group.

Each month, a new contest will be posted on the UMHRA Facebook Page. Any UMHRA member who has liked our Facebook Page and completes the requirements of the contest will be entered in a draw to win a prize!

Now that school is back in session, the 7th Annual UMHRA Wine and Cheese is quickly approaching! This networking opportunity allows members to actively interact with a variety of HR professionals and prospective employers. The Wine and Cheese always features a prominent guest speaker from the HR community. This year, Yvonne Thompson (President on HRMAM's Board of Directors) will be our keynote speaker. The topic that she will address is one that is relevant to every HR student - "Emerging as an HR leader." With Yvonne's background in HR and her book titled "Leadership for a New World," her speech will be intriguing and of relevance for anyone interested in HR, especially as they approach graduation. Yvonne is a public speaker and is dedicated to get students involved with the HR community. Please find below some additonal information regarding the Wine and Cheese.

Commerce students will have the opportunity to compete in the Excalibur Human Resources case competition. The team will include three primary members and one alternate.

Excalibur is a Canadian University Tournament in Human Resources held each year in Montreal. The tournament is open to all Canadian universities and is considered the premier Human Resources case competition in Canada. The tournament includes a semi-final, during which teams are required to participate and pass two tests based on case studies. The next day six finalist teams must analyze a real case that has been submitted by an actual organization.

Excalibur is a contest that teaches students how to solve real-life work situations. It is a head-on competition between Canadian Universities that offer HR or Industrial Relations programs.

Excalibur takes place on March 16th and 17th, 2012.
