About Us

The University of Manitoba Human Resource Association (UMHRA) is the largest organization of its kind in Manitoba. UMHRA focuses on providing developmental opportunities to aspiring Human Resource (HR) professionals through a variety of unique partnerships and events. It is our guarantee that every student involved with UMHRA will gain invaluable HR knowledge and skills, making him or her a valuable commodity for every business.

In a field as specialized as Human Resource Management (HRM) one cannot underestimate the importance of networking opportunities. In order to give members regular access to such events, UMHRA provides free** memberships to the Human Resource Management Association of Manitoba (HRMAM). HRMAM is responsible for holding a variety of networking dinners, skill workshops, and other distinct events, in addition to administering the Canadian Human Resource Professional (CHRP) designation for Manitoba writers. To ensure that all members gain the maximum benefit from these memberships, UMHRA members are encouraged to attend HRMAM meetings. As well, a select number of UMHRA members will have the opportunity to attend a dinner hosted by HRMAM in both October and March.

UMHRA is proud to work closely with the Career Development Centre (CDC), which teaches students the hard and soft skills necessary to begin or enhance their careers.

During the course of the university year, UMHRA holds monthly meetings focused on the different business functions encompassed by HR. Each meeting will feature an experienced speaker from the area, as well as other guests - and dinner will always be provided!

Members of UMHRA also have the exciting chance to take part in Excalibur, an annual national HR case competition held in Montreal.

Among other events, UMHRA also hosts an annual Wine and Cheese in January. This networking opportunity allows members to actively interact with a variety of HR professionals and prospective employers. All UMHRA members present will also have their resumes submitted directly to the attending companies. The Wine and Cheese always features a prominent guest speaker from the HR community.

Those who decide to join UMHRA are entitled to all of these benefits and more for a mere $15. **To be eligible for reimbursement of the HRMAM membership cost, students must meet the following criteria: (1) Be enrolled in the I.H. Asper School of Business;
(2) Have declard HR as their primary major; (3) Complete HRIR 2440; (4) Be a member of UMHRA; and (5) Have strong academic standing.
